Antoinette movie

This movie is really going to suck. Muchly.

http://www.liberation.fr/page.php?Article=384772

Apparently the People are reduced to the stereotypical "angry mob" so if the average viewer does not like barbie-pink!Antoinette, they'll have little choice in sympathies, because she and the rest of the Court will be the only human characters.

It's a lot easier for most people to sympathize with one person, even if she is the most annoying bimbo they have ever seen, than a "mob" with a good reason to be angry!

That said, from what I can tell, Liberation is treating this with irony, and seems to be pointing out that the subject matter is somewhat....irrelevant: big surprise there!
...at any rate, it's not a positive review, and I like the publication overall, so...

Hear hear!

Some, perhaps. I merely believe that simpler methods ARE possible.

*bows*

I would be interested to see your logic...

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
*applauds*

I could say the same...

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Verily, it is an amazing feat;)

*shakes head* Poor, confused moderée...

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
What, a fair trial?

Psht. You radicals are all the same.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes; or more precisely, resisting the temptation not to give one to people you don't like. (Not of course, that you're among their number, but as a more general historical example.)

*sniffs* I'm unique, dammit!

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
What a novel idea!

*raises brow* How so?

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
...You're laughing at me, aren't you?

I don't guillotine people without trial!

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I WAS being sarcastic.

Neither did the radicals 'til Thermidor 10. ...I think?
But if you're talking about us, then you're at least different from Ziggy and Amys.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
*sniffs*

...You did not just lump me in with Thermidorians! ...And what about the Girondins (the ones that ran away, that is...)? See, I told you!

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I do think people should be given fair trials whenever possible...

Quick, who was doing the executing 10 Thermidor? Are they the sort of "radicals" I associate with? Or did I not tear them limb from limb in cookie form?
As to the Girondins, the law applied on the night of 9 Thermidor was the same that Saint-Just had put through earlier to speed the execution of the Girondins; those that had fled were declared outlaws and only needed to be identified to be executed.

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent. You have redeemed yourself.

*giggles* You did, you did. I was, of course, not associating you with them: merely pointing out that UNTIL then, even the radicals did not execute people without trial.

And I'd heard it was Maxime who helped put that law through. Wasn't sure I believed it...

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
*grins*

But didn't I just point out that they kind of did?

I'm pretty sure it was Saint-Just, but I suppose I could research it more...

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of. That law may suck but it does, technically, cover it.

Yeah, I'd mostly heard Maxime; but like I said, I'm not sure I believe it.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Just as I said.

I don't believe it either, for three reasons: one, I've never heard that, two, as a person with his Oeuvres and numerous books about him, I've never seen any evidence for it, and three, it seems incongruous for the man who saved seventy-three Girondins. I will look into it further, though.

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It seems illogical to me simply because Maxime always insisted on legality. And if I were him (which I'm obviously not, but still...) I'd consider executing someone without any form of trial to be illegal, outlaw or no.

I mean, he DID disapprove of a trial for the King, but that's different.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he did say unjust laws weren't laws, so you may be right about that...

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Did he? Oooooooooh, I'm going to steal that quote!

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes....I forget where though.
...I'll try to find it.

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
*nodnod* I'd make it my signature on dA.

[identity profile] estellacat.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
...This grows difficult--perhaps I could get back to you on it? ...Don't bounce all that time!

[identity profile] daughtermestizo.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
*sits back down* I won't, I promise. I'm trying to finish an essay, in any case. Or at least finish it enough so that I may write the rest in class tomorrow.
