Antoinette movie
This movie is really going to suck. Muchly.

Apparently the People are reduced to the stereotypical "angry mob" so if the average viewer does not like barbie-pink!Antoinette, they'll have little choice in sympathies, because she and the rest of the Court will be the only human characters.
It's a lot easier for most people to sympathize with one person, even if she is the most annoying bimbo they have ever seen, than a "mob" with a good reason to be angry!
That said, from what I can tell, Liberation is treating this with irony, and seems to be pointing out that the subject matter is somewhat....irrelevant: big surprise there!
...at any rate, it's not a positive review, and I like the publication overall, so...

I don't believe it either, for three reasons: one, I've never heard that, two, as a person with his Oeuvres and numerous books about him, I've never seen any evidence for it, and three, it seems incongruous for the man who saved seventy-three Girondins. I will look into it further, though.

I mean, he DID disapprove of a trial for the King, but that's different.

And if I had known our FrRev section of the class was THAT sparse, I'd have done my project on the Comité de Salut Public. But it's too late now. *sniffs*

despite being about as Royalist as one can possible be! Historians today are still divided as to whether or not he really cared about the Scottish people, or if he merely wanted the British crown.no subject

That second detail is more complicated than that, but I am very tired now, and shall retire. If you're interested, I can elaborate tomorrow.
