Antoinette movie

This movie is really going to suck. Muchly.

Apparently the People are reduced to the stereotypical "angry mob" so if the average viewer does not like barbie-pink!Antoinette, they'll have little choice in sympathies, because she and the rest of the Court will be the only human characters.

It's a lot easier for most people to sympathize with one person, even if she is the most annoying bimbo they have ever seen, than a "mob" with a good reason to be angry!

That said, from what I can tell, Liberation is treating this with irony, and seems to be pointing out that the subject matter is somewhat....irrelevant: big surprise there!
...at any rate, it's not a positive review, and I like the publication overall, so...

*pats* It's okay; I'm sure, despite my scant knowledge of him, Charles Edward Stuart is interesting enough!

He really is despite being about as Royalist as one can possible be! Historians today are still divided as to whether or not he really cared about the Scottish people, or if he merely wanted the British crown.

...You must know my natural inclination is to pick the second possible answer, but I will refrain from doing so, being ignorant of the subject matter.

I do not know enough about him, personally, to make a judgement, but it seems to be a combination of the two. By all accounts he did care a good deal about the people, and I've little doubt he would have ruled them justly, but he had been raised his ENTIRE life (and this is his father's fault, not his) to believe it was his divine right to rule.

That second detail is more complicated than that, but I am very tired now, and shall retire. If you're interested, I can elaborate tomorrow.

Perhaps, perhaps. I'm afraid, however that it will inevitably come down to Saint-Just's phrase, "on ne peut régner innocement."

Knowing you, there's no other possibility. But I still say it's best to know. Though I will not insist on bothering you with it if you really don't care.

No; I ought to know. But if you're tired, wait for tomorrow to tell me.

Oh dear...it's tomorrow, and I'm much worse. Four hours of sleep don't cut it, I guess.

Evidently. *grins* You can tell me another day, if you want.
