Even the dogs do not come out of this novel feeling clean. Poor Brount.

It's pretty sad when you can say that of a book.


I can see why one might wish to insult Robespierre's politics, religious views, personal habits, his friends and even his lover but insulting his dog really seems to take things to a new low. I knid of want to write something ridiculously fluffy about Brount just to get back.

I was thinking that one. ;) You might have thought you were an impressionable 14 year old lacking in critical faculties reading PoGS. I remember that picture being on the page in the textbook that introduced the fall of the indulgents in history class. It was a bad day for rational analysis.

But in any case, I could be thinking of The Gods are Thirsty, an even worse book than Mantel's if such were possible

While I enjoyed the idea of sexyebil!Saint-Just bringing down woobie!Camille now with added hatesex in school (see above) even then I was reasonably sure it was my own pervy amusement. From what I've read of Tanith Lee, although there's no hatesex she's still on the adolescent drool trip.
