You see, there's one thing, beyond all of the rest:
Why are the Duplay women so disagreeable?
I am not such a grand feminist as far as women characterisation is concerned. I hate Mary Sues and I hate historical women who are characterised as if they were the Super Women of the 21st century while that didn't exist 50 years ago. I also generally hate to have random chicks around and am more personally interested with male psychology.
But this, I don't get this.
Especially, why the men are all so disagreeable with the women they're supposed to (at least, vaguely) appreciate or have fallen in love with?
