Very nicely said. Robespierre gets a bad rap partly because those who conspired against him, and those who followed him, did their best to make sure that he did. And popular culture surely doesn't help. I don't imagine anyone that read or saw any version of The Scarlet Pimpernel were given a good impression of him.

Do those who accuse him of paranoia about plots realize that it was a plot which felled him?

Im this case, it's certainly worth quoting the very wise man who said, "You're not paranoid if they're really out to get you."
