Des cartes révolutionnaires

My revolutionary cards came today! I got two decks: one was a reproduction of one originally created in 1793, and the other was made for the bicentennial. These are the Saint-Just and Robespierre cards for the latter. Saint-Just, because of his mission to Alsace, is representing the suit of the Republican army (des piques), while Robespierre represents the suit of the civilian Republic (des carreaux). Both in in place of the Roi card (hence the "R").

*shrugs* On the royalist suits (coeur and trefle), there was an actual king (Louis obviously). I think it was mostly so people could still play with cards--you know, not be wondering which name signifies which card.

True, true... I doubt Saint-Just would've appreciated being put on a King card.

Yes, but we have to remember that it was within Robespierre's capacity to be REASONABLE. Saint-Just, on the other hand...

Excuse me, but do you remember where you got the bicentennial cards from? I really admire the art and wouldn't mind owning a pack myself.

It's been so long that I'm afraid I don't remember where I got them. I know they were made for the bicentenial though, so you might try searching for different variantes of "cartes à jouer révolutionnaires bicentenaire," though having briefly done so just now, I haven't had much luck. Perhaps you'll meet with better success. Failing that, I did find a site selling other revolutionary playing cards, though not the deck in question: http://www.carte-a-jouer.com/+-Revolution-+.html.

You're welcome. If it helps, I can give you more specific information now about the deck: "Jeu de 54 cartes - Bicentenaire de la Révolution française - 1789-1989. Création Christian Offroy. France copyright D.M.I 1988."

EDIT: I tried searching using the artist's name, and I did find, it but I'm not sure it's for sale, though the site does give a nice image of all the cards: http://www.mydearplayingcards.com/2006_FRANCIA_HTML/455_Jeu-Bicentenaire.php. And there is apparently one place where it's for sale, but I'm not sure one could really buy it if one didn't speak French, since it's necessary to email the seller.
