No, but we do see Saint-Just saying he's about to leave and he looks rather....happy about the prospect.

The funny thing is, Saint-Just doesn't seem to ever get angry in these movies; he's either calm or happy. Maxime, on the other hand, is constantly losing his temper, which is rather amusing....but not particularly accurate, I wouldn't think.

That's really the only explanation for his grumpiness....in the first part he didn't have drugs, but he was less choleric too.
