This movie is really going to suck. Muchly.

Apparently the People are reduced to the stereotypical "angry mob" so if the average viewer does not like barbie-pink!Antoinette, they'll have little choice in sympathies, because she and the rest of the Court will be the only human characters.
It's a lot easier for most people to sympathize with one person, even if she is the most annoying bimbo they have ever seen, than a "mob" with a good reason to be angry!
That said, from what I can tell, Liberation is treating this with irony, and seems to be pointing out that the subject matter is somewhat....irrelevant: big surprise there!
...at any rate, it's not a positive review, and I like the publication overall, so...

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:55 (UTC)I doubt you could find anyone interested in the topic at all who would volunteer not to see the movie at least once for our boycott. So as I said, it would be seven people against the movie industry. Somehow, I doubt they'd be hurt.

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:50 (UTC)You're awfully pessimistic. I'm quite sure there are other people willing to boycott the movie. In fact, if it's a bad movie in general, people will boycott it naturally. I think there are more people with good taste in movies than there are rabid Kirsten Dunst fans.

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:39 (UTC)....You so were. *weeps*One can hope. Bring it up with the comité if you think I'm being especially pessimistic, though; I'm sure the others will agree with me.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:14 (UTC)*pats* I wasn't, I assure you.>_> That's because you radicals are naturally hard to please.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:35 (UTC)I don't guillotine people without a trial. Even if it is rigged...
One might just as easily say that you moderates are too credulous.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:37 (UTC)Hear hear! Some, perhaps. I merely believe that simpler methods ARE possible.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:39 (UTC)*bows*I would be interested to see your logic...

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:41 (UTC)*applauds*I could say the same...

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:45 (UTC)Verily, it is an amazing feat;)*shakes head* Poor, confused moderée...

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:52 (UTC)What, a fair trial?Psht. You radicals are all the same.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:54 (UTC)Yes; or more precisely, resisting the temptation not to give one to people you don't like. (Not of course, that you're among their number, but as a more general historical example.)*sniffs* I'm unique, dammit!

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:57 (UTC)What a novel idea!*raises brow* How so?

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:59 (UTC)...You're laughing at me, aren't you?I don't guillotine people without trial!

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:00 (UTC)No, but I WAS being sarcastic.Neither did the radicals 'til Thermidor 10. ...I think?
But if you're talking about us, then you're at least different from Ziggy and Amys.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:03 (UTC)*sniffs*...You did not just lump me in with Thermidorians! ...And what about the Girondins (the ones that ran away, that is...)? See, I told you!

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:07 (UTC)*pats*Woah, woah...what?

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:12 (UTC)I do think people should be given fair trials whenever possible...Quick, who was doing the executing 10 Thermidor? Are they the sort of "radicals" I associate with? Or did I not tear them limb from limb in cookie form?
As to the Girondins, the law applied on the night of 9 Thermidor was the same that Saint-Just had put through earlier to speed the execution of the Girondins; those that had fled were declared outlaws and only needed to be identified to be executed.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:15 (UTC)Excellent. You have redeemed yourself.*giggles* You did, you did. I was, of course, not associating you with them: merely pointing out that UNTIL then, even the radicals did not execute people without trial.
And I'd heard it was Maxime who helped put that law through. Wasn't sure I believed it...

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:20 (UTC)*grins*But didn't I just point out that they kind of did?
I'm pretty sure it was Saint-Just, but I suppose I could research it more...

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:25 (UTC)Yeah, I'd mostly heard Maxime; but like I said, I'm not sure I believe it.
(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:33 (UTC)I don't believe it either, for three reasons: one, I've never heard that, two, as a person with his Oeuvres and numerous books about him, I've never seen any evidence for it, and three, it seems incongruous for the man who saved seventy-three Girondins. I will look into it further, though.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:40 (UTC)I mean, he DID disapprove of a trial for the King, but that's different.

Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:45 (UTC)...I'll try to find it.
