Unfriendly caricatures. Obviously.

I can't believe that this one and the next are both by Boze. It doesn't seem possible. I also have to wonder what Marat's sister was doing with this decidedly creepy portrait of Maxime.

What is it with pupil-less sculptures?

It's mini!Robespierre!

Why must people scupt him scowling?

Ah. *sighs* I think you can guess my feelings on this sculpture. I mean, LOOK AT IT!!! *sighs*

What is with the nose?

Why is the wig smushed?

Stupid Vendéens. This is what the medallion says on the back (since it's hard to read): "SA MORT MIT FIN A SON PARTI--ET 22 TETES TOMBENT EN MEME TEMPS. COUTHON. HENRIOT. ST. JUST. ETC. ETC."

Is it normal to stick a man and his would-be assassin face to face on a medal?

That's all for now...same questions as last time, by the way, if you would.

I like the second portrait (and the fourth, naturally). As well, the last coin is very pretty.

I think the pupil-less statues has something to do with the Ancients way of sculpting. It was either something spiritual I don't recall... or just something very practical. I've heard all the statues had eyes, but they were made with gems or other similar precious stones, and they obviously disappeared with time. The Moderns only imitate the pupil-lessness, to give it an Ancient style.

*snort* Naturally indeed! I've always liked that coin too.

I know they were copying the Ancients (who I heard painted their statues, and that's why the eyes are now pupil-less--the paint wore away), but you would think they would have realized that the Ancients knew that people had pupils and would therefore have put them on. *facepalm* Oh well.

They also seemed to forget the Ancients did not have little thingies, they just pretended.

*coughs*
