I was searching for something or other in my email and I came across an old discussion I had with maelicia about dancing at Babet's wedding. For some reason I had the sudden urge to draw the scene, though, I'm afraid, rather badly and too large to scan properly. Still, I thought it might be interesting to post a few scans, just because the idea is cute, even if the drawing is mediocre at best. 

In case it's not obvious, that's Babet and Le Bas on the left, Saint-Just playing his flute in the middle, and Maxime and Éléonore on the right. Sulking!Henriette has been cut out of the picture because it was too large. Also, none of them have faces because I couldn't draw them that small in pastel it was more, um, artistic that way. And yes, they're all being strangely unpatriotic and dancing that new Austrian dance, the waltz because I didn't know how to draw them dancing anything else >__>. I'm also aware that Saint-Just's flute is much too fat to even approach realism, and that there is a conspicuous black smudge next to Maxime's foot. Oh, and bonus points to anyone who can spot how many cocardes there are in this picture and where they are. :D

And here Henriete is the only one you can see clearly. I'm not quite sure what happened to the colors. And it's pretty much an accident that Henriette has more "fashionable" hair than everyone else. I don't really know how that happened.

This one gets slightly closer to including all of them, but I'm afraid Saint-Just is cut off at a most unfortunate place. O__o;;

And this would probably be the best if it didn't have the effect of making Le Bas and Babet peripheral at their own wedding. Really, Maxime, Éléonore: my art is not always all about you. XD

Yes. The world need more of Babet and Le Bas, because they are adorable. You can, really. ;-; Um. It symbolizes the equalizing nature of love. ...Or something.

I have no idea. :( Laurel and I were thinking of doing the same thing for Camille's child, and we couldn't think of how to begin there either. Yes, they do. ^_^

Yes, that is most unfortunate. But then again, Maxime doesn't have an descendants either, and that's even more disappointing. Well, except in my alternate universe. But I hadn't thought any further than Maximilienne. >__>

I enjoy the rich, flowing and supple nature of the colours. The compositions are rather Impressionistic.

Thank you... Now that I think about it the colors are one area in which it succeeds. I must confess I've always preferred realistic painting to Impressionism, but maybe that's just because I can't do the former. >__>

I think (I don't quite remember) that his flute is being kept in his house-turned-into-a-museum in Blérancourt. I think Bernard Vinot mentions it, but it's been a long time I didn't check Vinot, so I'm not sure if I'm not just imagining that.... ^^;

Thank you. ^__^ Yes, it's all symbolic and tricolor--that *was* deliberate. I'm sure they didn't all always go around wearing blue, white, and red.

He was very happy of seeing Babet after the FdlES. Maxime must have been inspiring. Though depressed and depressing. But then, Robespierristes get turned on by weird things and in weird occasions, no? XD;

(I had a dream that confirms I still have imagination. Featuring Saint-Just and Henriette. And rated NC-17. Oddly enough. O.o;)

Btw, I do remember that Saint-Just's flute was called a "flageolet" by Vinot (I think) and therefore it isn't played on the side, like a flute traversière, but it's played, um, well, in the way that would embarrass Maxime because S-J would give him pr0ny looks as he plays it. ^__^
