I was searching for something or other in my email and I came across an old discussion I had with
maelicia about dancing at Babet's wedding. For some reason I had the sudden urge to draw the scene, though, I'm afraid, rather badly and too large to scan properly. Still, I thought it might be interesting to post a few scans, just because the idea is cute, even if the drawing is mediocre at best.

In case it's not obvious, that's Babet and Le Bas on the left, Saint-Just playing his flute in the middle, and Maxime and Éléonore on the right. Sulking!Henriette has been cut out of the picture because it was too large. Also, none of them have faces becauseI couldn't draw them that small in pastel it was more, um, artistic that way. And yes, they're all being strangely unpatriotic and dancing that new Austrian dance, the waltz because I didn't know how to draw them dancing anything else >__>. I'm also aware that Saint-Just's flute is much too fat to even approach realism, and that there is a conspicuous black smudge next to Maxime's foot. Oh, and bonus points to anyone who can spot how many cocardes there are in this picture and where they are. :D

And here Henriete is the only one you can see clearly. I'm not quite sure what happened to the colors.And it's pretty much an accident that Henriette has more "fashionable" hair than everyone else. I don't really know how that happened.

This one gets slightly closer to including all of them, but I'm afraid Saint-Just is cut off at a most unfortunate place. O__o;;

And this would probably be the best if it didn't have the effect of making Le Bas and Babet peripheral at their own wedding. Really, Maxime, Éléonore: my art is not always all about you. XD

Well, I didn't notice the conspicuous black smudge until you pointed it out, if that helps. :D

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 04:22 (UTC)Yes, or at least so I've read in several different reputable sources. It's all right that you don't know though; after all, the sources I used were in French.
Just a little. But every little bit counts, as they say. XD

But, awwww, it all looks so pretty. I like the colours. :D (In what very old and random converstion did you find that? XD; )

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 04:43 (UTC)Thank you. ^__^ Yes, it's all symbolic and tricolor--that *was* deliberate. I'm sure they didn't all always go around wearing blue, white, and red.
(The conversation is from December of 2006. Shall I quote from it? Here:
Maelicia: And there's music too... which makes me wonder if they danced -- which they surely did. They had sort of rondes back then, eh?
Estella: They had a lot of dances--gavottes, pavanes, allemandes, etc.--but whether they actually danced is something different...
M: I admit... I'd love to think they did... for Babet's wedding perhaps?
E: Well, that's quite possible. Awwww....do you think Saint-Just would dance? He doesn't really seem like the dancing type. Maybe he'd play his flute.
M: I don't know... I was thinking about that... I guess he'd decide to play flute to avoid dancing... unless Henriette insisted a lot. Poor Saint-Just. XD
E: They amuse me so much. Do you think Maxime and Eléonore danced?
M: Of course they would dance. Saint-Just is just weird and shy... and not the dancing-type. XD ...I'd really like to know what was the big problem with Henriette though.)

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 04:47 (UTC)Awww, yes. It's all so patriotic. To make up for the unpatriotic Austrian dance, I guess. XD
LOLWOAH. December 2006?!? That's almost like... a historical SOURCE! XD

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 05:04 (UTC)Yes, they're just compensating, I'm afraid. XD
Technically speaking, it is now. It's certainly strange to think about it that way though. -_-;

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 05:14 (UTC)It must be that. XD
It's, um, a profesional deformation? (And I had a lot of imagination back then.)

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 20:36 (UTC)Though depressed and depressing. But then, Robespierristes get turned on by weird things and in weird occasions, no? XD;(I had a dream that confirms I still have imagination. Featuring Saint-Just and Henriette. And rated NC-17. Oddly enough. O.o;)
