François Furet...
Monday, 15 September 2008 10:37...says the dumbest things. Ready for this one?:
« veut-on dire que les thermidoriens ont réagi contre les classes inférieures (!) , leurs prétentions (!) à participer au gouvernement de la cité ? Sans doute, mais ce courant profond, qui est la logique même de la Révolution des lumières, a repris facilement son chenal dès germinal an II : Boissy d'Anglas ne fait sur ce point que continuer Robespierre ».
"Do they want to say that the Thermidorians reacted against the inferior (!) classes, their pretentions (!) to participation in governing? Doubtless, but this profound current, which is the very logic of the Revolution of the Enlightenment, was easily put back on track from Germinal Year II: Boissy d'Anglas was nothing but a continuation of Robespierre on this point."
Contemplate that phrase, if you will, and then tell me if you think Furet was, as usual, smoking some serious bad!crack.
Also, in other news, guess who, among others, was at the pope's arrival in France (aside from Sarkoléon)? Who else but "Louis XX"? *headdesk* I should really stop being surprised at these things by now, but... D:
Edit: I am also outraged about some of the things Sarkoléon (or is it Sarko Capet now?) said concerning the Church and about its "place" in French society. I wish I had time to elaborate, but sadly, I have class.
