This movie is really going to suck. Muchly.

Apparently the People are reduced to the stereotypical "angry mob" so if the average viewer does not like barbie-pink!Antoinette, they'll have little choice in sympathies, because she and the rest of the Court will be the only human characters.
It's a lot easier for most people to sympathize with one person, even if she is the most annoying bimbo they have ever seen, than a "mob" with a good reason to be angry!
That said, from what I can tell, Liberation is treating this with irony, and seems to be pointing out that the subject matter is somewhat....irrelevant: big surprise there!
...at any rate, it's not a positive review, and I like the publication overall, so...

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:45 (UTC)Um. Maybe all the copies of the film will spontaneously combust? *pats comfortingly on the shoulder*
(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:55 (UTC)That would be good... *sniffs*

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 06:06 (UTC)That makes a lot more sense...
I know. It's horrible. *sobs quietly*
(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 06:10 (UTC)*weeps for the future of humanity* Why, Sofia, WHY?
(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 06:22 (UTC)I have no idea. *sobs* Why couldn't she just be dangerously obsessed with Marat instead? At least that would be original.

Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:41 (UTC)And hilarious! OMSB, that would make such a funny movie!
Especially if Marat wears a fluffy dress.(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 20:44 (UTC)I know. They could have angry punk rock music, too.
A pink one. He might ooze all over it, though.(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:40 (UTC)XD That would be beyond awesome.
Ewww....then again, it is Marat. It can always be washed, I suppose.(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:49 (UTC)Punk!Marat is an amusing mental image.
Oooh, that gives me an idea. It can be a tacky romantic comedy. He could fall in love with Simone Evrard based solely on her ability to clean his frilly dresses. Of course that would mess up the timeline a bit, but no one will know the difference.(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:50 (UTC)And about as accurate as Barbie!Antoinette.
...That would be rather amusing, in a somewhat sick way.(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:55 (UTC)Probably. And no one will scream at us for it, because Marat has no rabid fangirls or fanboys. At least, I don't think so.
I am vaguely tempted to try and draw a poster for it now. With sickening pink font. XD(no subject)
Date: Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:59 (UTC)Well that one historian, Massin tried to do the same rehabilitation for Marat as was (and is being) done for Robespierre, so presumably he has some fans...
You so should; it would be hysterical! ...Please?(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:14 (UTC)Really? I didn't know that.
I'll try. I doubt it will look good, since I can't draw Marat at all. Oh well. I can blame my artistic shortcomings on the desire to be trendy and connect with modern audiences.(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:29 (UTC)*nods* I haven't read his biography of Marat, but he makes allusions to it in his Robespierre biography.
Why not? That's what Sofia Coppola did.(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:45 (UTC)Oooh, cool. :D
Do I have to make Marat a thinly veiled representation of myself, though? Because I don't think that will work so well.(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:04 (UTC)...I've never actually read a biography of Marat. Then again, I've never actually read a full biography of any Revolutionary except Robespierre--I probably ought to.
You don't have to; I don't see how you could without distorting someone's character. Although, it would undoubtedly be amusing.(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:46 (UTC)I haven't either, but that's mainly due to not being able to find any.
And since amusement is what we're going for, I suppose that would be a good thing?(no subject)
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:51 (UTC)...I'm sure they exist. I have one on Saint-Just, but I'm not sure I want to read it considering the author referred to him as "demonic" in the preface...
Possibly, but I think it would be difficult to create a self-insert!Marat....not to mention highly disturbing.(no subject)
