I just saw the phrase "règne de Robespierre" used in all seriousness in a serious work of history published this year, 2010.* The author wasn't even paraphrasing a primary source - let alone quoting one directly. No, she just apparently thinks this is the most appropriate term for the Republic, pre-Thermidor. And I was complaining about Luzzatto!

Schama would be proud.
Does she mention "sanguinaire" somewhere? Because if she doesn't, her phrase is lacking the keyword.
God, will they ever stop?

Doubtless. Oddly, she doesn't use any terms like "sanguinaire"; she's utterly matter of fact. That's what makes it so bizarre.

...To think I actually bought this book and was planning on reading it at some point.

It's really bizarre. It sounds like a bad joke. Btw, who is she?
A few days ago I found something similar in another "serious" work, but I can't remember what it was. I'll have to look for it.

Someone who apparently both contributes to the AHRF and claims Mona Ozouf for a mentor. Is there considered to be no contradiction in this anymore?
