montagnarde1793: (Maxime/Saint-Just)
[personal profile] montagnarde1793
All of you really need to read Le Chevalier de Saint-Just, if only for passages like this:

Saint-Just parut un peu décontenancé.

Saint-Just, maîtrisant sa confusion, répondit simplement :

Frankly, I have absolutely no idea; I ordered it a really long time ago.

So, the rest of that scene:

Ohhhhhhh! Great! Then the one I saw is probably still there! *bounces*

HAHAHAHA. They share ideas so why not share a bed? It's pretty much the same thing, right? *snickers* C'mon, Maxime, you're not even TRYING to be subtle.

Well, good then; it really does have some ingenious scenes!

...Like that one;) That scene just wins at life. And no, Maxime can't seem to be subtle about that: of course it's the same thing! What do you mean?

What other ingenious scenes are there?

*laughs* You really do want me to give the whole book away, don't you?

...I really would, but I don't remember exact scenes. Just what I happened to come across seemed well-done, is all.
...And yes, it would seem that Maxime does call him Florelle all through the book. XD

Just the slashy bits... *wibbles*

Oh? And what does Florelle call him?

Unfortunately, it takes some sifting to find them...

Most of the time, he doesn't actually call him anything, but when he does he calls him Maximilien.

You mean to say they might not?
...that would be a pity.

The scene where Maxime tells Saint-Just about Charlotte and Fouché was also pretty amusing, now that I think about it...

I asked for four books from that website. I hope I can get them! Because two are books I'm currently hoarding from the public library...

Yes yes? *curious*

Really? And which are those?

Saint-Just considéra son ami, éberlué.
Devines-tu pourquoi ?
—Il était amoureux d’Elise ? [She’s the fictional one, obviously.]
—Tu mens… Ce n’est pas possible… Et Saint-Just partit soudain d’un rire incohercible. Robespierre lui fit écho.
—J’ai cru mourir, dit enfin Saint-Just en reprenant son souffle. Alors, raconte.

The Saint-Just biography and "Twelve Who Ruled". At first it was just S-J, but now I've decided to hoard Palmer, too. It's got the only good bios of Collot, Billaud, and Hérault I can find.

HAHAHA! Indignant!Maxime...dawww. Is that what really happened, then? Or close to it? Pfft on Saint-Just for even ASKING about the list, silly boy.

There's a new edition of Twelve Who Ruled out--it's the only decent account relating to the Revolution one can find in bookstores, these days. *facepalm*

The business with Charlotte, you mean? Yes, that's pretty much it.
Saint-Just really should have known better. XD

A new one? How new? The edition our library has is a reprint, but it's not terribly recent.

Oh my...silly Fouché.
What happend after? Did Maxime chide him for the comment? Did he tap him on the nose? DID HE BITCH-SLAP HIM?

I don't know how new, precisely: a year or two. If yours has a pinkish cover then it's not the one.

As thorougly amusing as the would have been, no, he did not bitch-slap him. *facepalm* The conversation merely continues like this:

No, mine has an orange-ish cover.

..."Tu es insupportable" is close enough. I can see Maxime saying that with a -_- face.

...Hm. The new one is kind-of cream-colored, with different colored squares.

Seriously! ...I think he actually does come pretty close to bitch-slapping him on another occasion though...

WHAT? But what does Saint-Just DO??

Here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0691121877/sr=8-2/qid=1150863231/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-1153564-6374425?%5Fencoding=UTF8 I didn't remember it exactly correctly, but it's close enough.

I can't find the passage now, but Maxime asks Saint-Just when he's going to marry Henriette, and Saint-Just replies that he doesn't ask him when he's going to marry Eléonore, and then Maxime (who is obviously glaring at him by this point) says that they didn't just announce they were going to get married in Ventôse (it's now Germinal). *facepalm*
